Discover the Relationships That Sustain Life.
Biodiversity includes the variety of life, from plants, birds and insects to mammals, reptiles, fungi and microorganisms, and the ecosystems and relationships they form.
Each organism can contribute to ecological processes such as pollination, seed dispersal, decomposition, soil formation, food-web relationships and habitat functioning. Understanding biodiversity helps us see nature as an interconnected system rather than a collection of separate species.
Topics to explore
Native flora
Trees, shrubs and grasses that belong to a place, and who depends on them.
Birds and bird habitats
What birds need from a landscape, from food to safe nesting.
Insects and pollinators
Small animals doing work that most food webs depend on.
Reptiles and responsible coexistence
Sharing space safely with animals people often fear.
Mammals and urban wildlife
How animals use cities, and what makes that hard for them.
Soil life and decomposition
The unseen community that returns nutrients to the ground.
Food webs and relationships
Who eats, shelters, carries and depends on whom.
Habitat fragmentation
What happens when a continuous habitat is divided into patches.
Biodiversity in cities
What urban green space can, and cannot, offer wildlife.
Ecosystem recovery
How degraded habitats can regain function over time.
Human–wildlife coexistence
Practical, safe ways of living alongside wild animals.
Urban biodiversity
Cities can provide habitat for certain species. They also create risks through habitat loss, traffic, disturbance, inappropriate landscaping, pollution and human–wildlife conflict. Locally appropriate vegetation, habitat connectivity, reduced disturbance, safe coexistence and informed public awareness all help.
A green space is not automatically ecologically healthy because it contains trees. What grows there, how it is managed and how it connects to other habitat all matter.
Learning resources
KJVF is building a resource library covering native plant identification, observation guides, nature-walk learning sheets, bird and insect observation, ecological restoration basics, wildlife coexistence guidance, student worksheets, quizzes and activity sheets. Technical content is published only with sources and qualified review.
